QIPs - Vocational Training Programme for the Youth Returnees at Musali in Mannar District
Project: Vocational training on carpentry, house wiring, out boat motor mechanic, computer science,plumbing and sewing for returnee youth at the resettlement areas in Musali DS division.
Objective: This programme seeks to provide an opportunity for the youth in the resettlement areas to follow the vocational training in finding their own way to gain income through the self employment and as the trained youth get job after the training, the income will be increased & they can save money.
Implementation: Inauguration ceremony of the vocational training programme was held on 25.10.09 at Mutharipputhurai at3.00pm by the National Youth Service Council (NYSC) in Mannar. The NYSC has invited Musali DS & UNHCR and the nominated trainees of the programme. Resettlement Hon. Minister Rishard Badurdeen also participated in the inauguration. Mannar, UNHCR has appreciated the CHA’s role in getting approval from PTF and the selecting a good technical partner for the implementation. Some CBOs of the returnees area was also appreciated initiative since this is the first programme offered for the youth in resettlement areas after their returned.

National Youth Service Council is a local government organization located at ThalaiMannar Road, Mannar. The NYC has good track records of giving vocational training on carpentry, masonry, welting, sewing beautician, house wiring & computer hard wire & soft wire courses to the unemployed youths in Mannar & Nanattan DS Divisions. The NYC has tools for house wiring, plumbing, out motor mechanic sewing & computer had wire.

Final monitoring visit was carried out with QIPs vocational trainees at Musali resettlement areas on 18th February 2010 by CHA. According to the focus group discussion with all trainees we were abele to unearth the immediate impact of the programme to them, most of them were really enjoying the training and some of they already met the practical opportunities in the resettlement areas to practice with what they learnt. Certificate distribution ceremony held on 25th February 2010 in collaboration with Mannar UNHCR & NYSC.
