Salon workers were helped for their livelihood for the first time in the district
28 war affected salon workers from Trincomalee were provided with salon chairs and equipments. Now they are able to earn income without much capital investments.
HRDO Clients started their livelihoods
Human Rights violated 21 war affected families in Trincomalee district were given with sewing machines goats, poultry, and materials to initiate grocery shop to earn income in the absence/inability of their family bread winner.
Computer hardware training programme for school leavers
In collaboration with Jaffna Zonal Education Office, Computer Hardware Training course were given to 30 students from different schools, who already received Basic Computer Training under the Non Formal Education Unit- Jaffna Zonal Education Department.
 A Recipient –I, Vimalathas Sharmila, of No.25, Cemetery road, Navanthurai lost my husband in 2006. Mr. Winson Vimalathas who accompanied Fr. Jim Brown in 2006 when the situation was very unusual. People all know that both of them disappeared. This was an unforgettable event. After sometime we heard that they have been dead. I was left alone with my 5 children without any help to lead my life. I did not have any self employment to generate my income. I was in a very difficult situation.
At that time, I approached CHA, and related my story. They carefully listened to me and identified me as a deserving case. They provided me with necessary things and materials worth of Rs. 20,000/- to put up a small grocery shop. I have started the shop and I am able to get some income for my children’s’ studies, and to lead my life. Children also are helping me to manage the shop. They were also assisted by CHA to continue their education.
When I was in a difficult situation, CHA came forward to help me. This timely help gave me courage and confidence to do a business very successfully. I assure you that I will continue my business for the development of my family
Vocational Training center at Erukkalampiddy resettlement village, Nagawilluwa, Palavi
The village comprising of 1015 persons having been struggling without a proper building in order to develop their village and conduct trainings, development meetings, etc. CHA assisted the villagers to build a vocational training centre by providing materials and technical support. The women in the camp have been trained by National Craft Council to make handicraft items from different parts of coconut tree. The training programme supported by CHA. Over 30 women are being trained under this training programme.
Livelihood for recently conflict affected families

The recently displaced people from Ampara, Trincomalee, Vavuniya, Batticaloa and Jaffna war affected areas and temporarily live at Akkraipattu and Alayadevembu DS Division couldn’t recommence their livelihood activity due to absence of equipments and tools. These families were provided withlivelihood materials such as carpentry, mason, saloon, agriculture, retail shops, snack food preparation, poultry, wiring and animal husbandry tools and equipment help them to restart their livelihood activity or start a new livelihood option.
In addition 11 poor widow families were selected for self employment programme. All 11 beneficiaries linked with CHA livelihood forum and convene meeting once a month to share knowledge, skills, problems and market opportunities among them. At the same time, CHA facilitated on the job training to the beneficiaries by collaborating with appropriate prog conducted by government and NGOs. Their main livelihood activities are flour grinding, making snack food, poultry and tailoring.

Then 104 youth from Vinyagapuram selected and initiated Small Business Working Groups in the area of food production and marketing products with the aim to strengthen community livelihood skills and offer employment opportunities for the unemployed youth (mostly females).
Each Business group trained on food processing (depend on category of Business Group), Starting Your Business (SYB), Marketing management and Quality control and Improving Your Business (IYB) by relevant institutions and expertise before commencement of livelihood activities.
The processed products are marketed through the local shops and mobile sales persons.
Development and Expansion of Home gardening at Kanthinagar- Vavuniya
30 families, engage in home gardening were selected to develop and expand the existing home garden system.
Department of Agriculture trained and appraised the beneficiaries on ecological farming, control of pest and diseases and techniques to improve the production in a sustainable way.
Establishment of Sewing Training and Tailoring Centre- Kanthinagar, Vavuniya
20 women were trained in making kids, ladies and gents’ cloths, embroidery work, patch work and etc. CHA provided 10 machines and required accessories to start marketing while on training.
Gingelly Processing Centre at Cheddikulam
The programme is carried out in collaboration with Department of Agriculture, Divisional Secretariat, Cheddikulam. The selected twenty women trained in production of Gingelly oil and by products such as sweets and Poonac. An experienced Gingelly Oil Processor trained the twenty women. The Department of Agriculture continuously assists to improve the quality and market of the products. |
