Relief Assistance

14,333 families and 2211 individuals have been benefited out of this grant through relief assistance activities
(excluding Vav relief beneficiaries from Feb 2009).
CHA relief work comprise of provision of food items and non food items.
Food relief involves provision of cooked food parcels to the IDP sites, communal cooking inside the sites and provision of supplementary food items.
Eachchilampattu
With the onset of resettlement at Eachchilampattu during Sep- Oct 2007, vegetables, rice, and canned fish were supplied to 2950 families on weekly basis for a period of one and a half month until these families resume fishing activities. WFP provided the required dry rations.
Food assistance enabled A good road.
RR unit assisted 50 families by providing relief assistance in Puttulam .
The people in the resettled village of Kopay requested the DS to make a road for their village as it was in bad condition and could not be used during the rainy season. Families also required an additional income as a means of livelihood were suffering for food since they didn’t have any work. So this project was implemented through divisional secretariat and the Resettled families were provided with Rice, Floor, Sugar, Dhal, Tea, Soap and Tin Fish for their participation in the “Food for Work” programme. That was helpful to them until they find their own income to manage their basic needs and also facilitated a path in the village.
Non Food Relief generally provision of mats, bed Sheets, towels, cloths, hygienic materials, baby items and kitchen utensils for the affected people.
Assistance for prisoners
Jaffna relief and rehabilitation unit provided NFRI packs, clothes, sanitation materials and books to the Jaffna prison for the people who have surrendered for their safety. Young students and youths had surrendered due to the fear of violence and sought protection at Human Right commission. Since they had drop out the school, they were assisted by providing needed Moreover we have dug two tube- wells and built three toilets in the prison.
500 families received NFRI pack
CHA have provided NFRI to 500 IDP Families in Kopay, Uduvil, Tellippalai, Sandilipay and Chankanai area. The NFRI pack comprises of mats, bed Sheets, towels and kitchen utensils for the people who have displaced form the HSZ to the above DS Divisions. |
