Health and Livelihood Grants Programe
Two critical components of recovery from natural disasters include health of victims and their families, and their means to sustain a livelihood. This project has been initiated, funded by AmeriCares and managed by CHA. This report aims to provide a descriptive account of the tasks completed by the staff of CHA from the designing of the project until the end of the implementation of all activities. All information detailed covers the period 01st May 2006 – 31st May 2007.
The project targeted five tsunami affected districts in the first cycle, namely Batticaloa, Ampara, Matara, Galle, and Kalutara. The activities were implemented through CBOs and NGOs at district level.
Main objective of the programme was to improve the health and livelihoods of affected persons and their families through CBO/NGO grants. The grantees were due to complete their activities within a 4-5 months project cycle and wished to directly assist a minimum of 2000 families and 8000 children within a period of ten-months.
