Environment Forum

It is clearly understood, now more than ever, that consideration of the environment is of fundamental importance across spheres and it is integral that it be prominent in all planning.

The Environment Forum, having broadened in scope from post tsunami issues to general environmental issues serves as a platform on which the government sectors responsible for environment, environmental groups/organizations and non-governmental organizations can come together.

It allows for discussion of issues, the legalities of these issues, resolutions and mitigatory measures as well as creates cooperation and encourages knowledge sharing between both expert and lay members of the Forum

District forums

District level environment forums will soon begin; in some districts similar more loosely focused meetings are already taking place within the communities. It is hoped that some of the more pressing environmental issues in each of the districts could be highlighted and discussed at these district level forums; which then could filter through to the Colombo forum to be addressed at central government / national level.
