Education Assistance
(Dignity and protection)
Total assisted: 21728 students

The intense conflict in 2006 disrupted the education of thousands of internally displaced children. The displaced included thousands of students, of whom many were preparing to, take their O/L and A/L exams. Plus arrival of thousands of displaced students caused lack of classroom space, furniture and study materials at most of IDPs concentrated areas.  Existing educational facilities are already severely overcrowded with students’ populations going well beyond the 45 students per class. IDP parents have made significant initiatives including forming and strengthening Parent Teacher Associations and identifying teachers for IDP schools.

IDP children who completed primary education are faced with the danger of dropping out of school as their often-impoverished parents are unable to pay for the tuition fees that secondary and tertiary institutions require when enrolling them.
