The 2004 tsunami brought about a deep awareness of how natural disasters can affect our lives. Many other natural hazards such as flooding, cyclones and landslides are disasters that have affected and continue to affect Sri Lanka .

Many of us however are unaware of what these hazards are, how they affect us and how we increase their adverse effects by following unsound practices such as land clearing, building on slopes, poor waste management and general neglect of natural habitats.

As such the EP awareness component looks at increasing our day to day knowledge of the natural hazards to which Sri Lanka is prone; how we can hope to prevent adverse effects of such hazards by following simple preventive steps in our lives; and how to prevent environmental issues from becoming future disasters.
