| :: What is Livelihood? |
|
Livelihood can be defined as a combination of all the different occupations and activities that contribute to, or affect, the ability to ensure a living for an individual and his/her family. It is about the individual, and his/her capabilities and means of earning a living, including income and assets (an asset could be property, livestock, equipment, or the availability of natural resources). |
A livelihood is 'sustainable' when it maintains or improves an individual's ability, and the ability of others in a community, to earn a living now and into the future. Modified from Regaining Your Livelihood, Consortium of Humanitarian Agencies (CHA) |

The CHA Livelihood website is an information source/exchange. It also acts as a forum for discussion and as a link between people involved in livelihood initiatives. The website is meant to reach an island-wide audience; therefore contributions, ideas, and feedback are greatly appreciated from anyone involved or interested in livelihood development. |
